In Vivo, captures Bright Dog Red live, at Brooklyn’s renowned ShapeShifter Lab. The set featured on In Vivo lasted 59 minutes and 56 seconds. Nearly 58 of those minutes, recorded in the “thoroughly improvised” (Downbeat) manner with which BDR approaches all of its live sets, appear on In Vivo. Although the original performance was contiguous, the album has been divided into tracks, formed by careful editing of the hourlong recording. Joe Pignato, Bright Dog Red’s drummer and leader, explains the process:
"We wanted listeners to hear what BDR does, in vivo so to speak. When we make a studio album, I review the improvisations, marking possible breaks, edit points where I hear discrete structures, compositional ideas, or standalone moments. For this release, I tried that, but it was producing a result that was too similar to what one expects from a BDR album. I had to rethink things a bit and edit breaks only at points of clear departure, where one set of ideas fully broke away from another. Taking this approach ensured that the process—the searching, the transitions, the motion of the set—remained the focus of the recording."

OK. Listen: SO MANY personal buttons tapped with this one.
Intensely imaginative blend of musical mediums and box-busting genre jumps [also - a dope MC - well-played]!
